RUN TIME REQUIREMENTS Note Hound requires Windows For WorkGroups, or Windows 3.1+, a VGA graphics adaptor, and a mouse. Turn on sound if you have a sound card or a sound driver for your PC Speaker. The program runs best on a 386DX33 or better machine with at least 4 megabytes of memory. In addition, this program requires the VBRUN300.DLL to run as it is a Visual Basic program. 2. INTRODUCTION Note Hound is a low-cost, Windows, note manager that allows you to enter in text notes with bibliographic information and index them so you can find them later. There are TWO programs: NOTHOUND.EXE and NOTBBLIO.EXE The NOTHOUND.EXE is the main program and is called Note Hound. This program allows you to read/change/add/delete and search for note data. The NOTBBLIO.EXE program is just a reporting/export tool for the source/bibliography records generated by the Note Hound program. 3. WHAT'S NEW The whole program is new. KNOWN BUGS a. If you have just started Note Hound and goto the last record immediately, the text for the Keywords field might not show up for the last record. The text is actually there, just click somewhere else to get it to show up. b. If you cannot compress a database as it says it is in use, then change databases temporarily. If it is still locked, shutdown Note Hound then restart it. The locks should be gone now. c. Dragging from one cell to another cell in a column sometimes refuses to accept the change. This is a bug in a custom control that I cannot fix. d. You cannot close Note Hound when the current database is empty. You must have at least one row and one category in the database. TROUBLE SHOOTING 1. You may have to execute the file share.exe in your autoexec.bat file. If Note Hound does not run properly, place the following line in your autoexec.bat file: share.exe 2. Also check your graphics driver as resolutions with more than 256 colors may have cause funny updates, etc. Try running with a standard windows video driver. 3. If you are having troubles with lockups in print preview for grid view, then you may try sizing the columns in grid view mode to fit all the columns within the boundaries of the page. You can also try changing your page orientation to landscape mode from portrait. Finally, this program has been tested with over 900 records and a database size of more than 5 megabytes and it keeps on ticking. 4. NOTE HOUND AS SHAREWARE Note Hound is marketed as shareware and is not free. The concept of shareware allows users a chance to try software before buying it. After a trial period of two weeks, but more often dictated by conscience, continued use of a shareware program expects you to register it. If you enjoy using this program please register it, as it encourages me to continue to develop low cost, interesting software that might not otherwise see daylight.
